This is my gift, My Curse

they say that curiosity killed the cat, I say it was the apathy brought on by relentless academia. As long as I can remember I've been curious about everything, and so when I was little, the opportunity to go to school excited me as a chance to satisfy that curiousity, and learn about the way our universe, world, country, and language behave. However as the years have gone on I've become increasingly disillusioned by the insistence of American teachers on how to be academically successful, without the background of actually teaching anything. Academia as a means of learning can be successful with a significant number of students, but when it leads to teachers worshipping the ways of academia in and of itself, it becomes meaningless, a shell kept alive by a twisted national obsession with honoring the mundane and mediocre, and ignoring the curious

Every year have I yearned
For the knowledge
Which I see just ahead of me

And every year have I learned
That the knowledge which I sought
Is nought but a shell
Made of that which I already knew
